In 1993 started learning Kungfu after being assaulted in a home invasion. I started learning Bruce Lee's style, The Way of the Intercepting Fist. This was two years of technique and sparring application before I joined a traditional Hung Gar 5 Animal Kungfu school. In '96 I moved to New York City to join the official Overseas headquarters of SHAOLIN TEMPLE and trained Chinese Yoga, Buddhism and Kungfu under Venerable Master Shi Guo Lin for three years. I then moved to Taiwan where I studied Yang Style Tai Chi and Long Fist Kungfu. After living four years in Taiwan I returned to Western New York and joined 9 Heavenly Gate Dragon Kungfu. A friend who runs a Wing Chun Association and ran a sparring club for five years. I've taught Kungfu in after school and Summer programs through the Park Side Association in Buffalo and also held private classes. My approach to Kungfu is to ask the question, "What is the ART of Martial Arts?" After 20 years of Kungfu training I'm at the stage where the techniques are worn into my nervous system so I can "improvise." My approach to teaching is grounded in traditional Shaolin methods but I strive to lead the students to that same place where they can own the art and allow their spirit to show through naturally.
I studied Chi Kung (Chinese Yoga), Buddhism and Shaolin Kungfu under 34th generation Fighting Monk Venerable Shi Guo Lin, abbot of the official American headquarters of Shaolin Temple. Shaolin is where Zen Buddhism began and is thought of as China's highest institution of martial arts. Practicing 3 to 5 days a week I learned many traditional forms, among them Xiao Hong Chuan and Yi Jin Jing.

Long Fist Kungfu
My personal style is a hybrid of everything I've learned in 20 years however I took to Long Fist style very naturally as it complimented my Northern Shaolin training well. While living in Taipei, Taiwan, I spent two years at The Chinese Academy of Long Fist and Hung Style (Hung Gar) Kungfu.

Here is a video of me training limited sparring to develop sensitivity to timing, range and technique. The object is not to "win" but to remain in the combat zone to EXPLORE possibilities of the techniques and develop martial strategies. Your real opponent is your own ignorance, greed and fear. One must have an attitude of gratitude towards the sparring partner, not competition or aggression. Since the techniques happen very fast, it is recommeded that you pause and look for where techniques are being applied.
Snake Style Training
This is both an example of Kungfu and of my INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO PRODUCTION skills. This was created as part of an assignment for graduate school.
Jade Dragon Warrior Arts Website
I am filming instructional video and creating a website for my Kungfu school featuring all of their DRAGON STYLE KUNGFU. Dragon style is one of the most arcane and high levels of Kungfu, we are sharing it with the public because there are not enough resources for this rare information. The site is in ongoing construction, please click the image below to visit JADE DRAGON WARRIOR ARTS.
